Thanks for the inside look at Google. Interesting how so few are taking advantage of all 3 meals. Sounds like a fun job, one that would suck you into Google world, though …
i kind of smell a rat – how does this get to be a top WP blog? one post no links a heap of tagging – so I might be interested if I was thinking of working for either of these guys but I’m not and neither are most people so get over it please. they are both big corporations some bits are great some bits suck, most people are there for the coin or the kudos or both.
tbh this is no different strategy to that employed by any of the MBA farms out there get them young get them rich make it so they can’t leave.
Wow, I never knew such a “culture” at Google existed…that’s really interesting..(although the blogger above me “smells a rat” isn’t Serg (one of the founders of Google) a Russian immigrant…hmmm it would be interesting if he read my wordpress blog…http://immigrantlife.wordpress.com/, I think he has been a tad bit more successful then I have…(in immigrating to the US) – Spasiba…hey I left my former communist country too early to learn Russian…is he married???? Just kidding. …
I tell you…immigrants make America ‘go round…if only the mainstream media moguls would be able to admit that….(by the way if you are not 100% American Indian- your ancestors were immigrants…respect your heritage and my motive of my blog is to respect “new” immigrants…from those that make it financially like Serg…to those that wash your dishes in the local diner…) – G

If this is a credible source of information, then it just shows that big Corporations such as Google and Microsoft see just about everyone as a Social Security number unless you are being super productive for them.
I use to work for a huge Corporation (that will remain nameless) and yes, they provide for you certain things, but if you slip up then they will try everything in their arsenal to try and get you to “quit” just so they don’t have to pay you anything, like they would have to if they terminated you.
I am currently working on a new computer pointing device.
It is extreme in its ergonomics and is designed with your mind in mind. But solo development is going slow and I need more of everything. Now would Google like to lend a hand? Microsoft? Well Google seems like they would and the environment would be perfect. Microsoft, well, not so much. MS may offer ‘career development’ but this thing is my career, my life. Yeah, Google feels much more new, excited, fertile. So what’s next to see if Google can help? Google or Bust? Make a call? Just show up on their doorstep and ‘Hi I’m your new pointingdevices guy with a revolutionary pointing device? It’s out of concept, it works, it’s on prototype 4, complete schematics and egonomic shape fully defined. HMMmmm… if Google kicked me to the curb, by definition, couldn’t that be my Google workspace? This thing is that intense. I don’t care where I work on it, I just need more resources and funding to get it out faster than it’s going now.\
Anyone?
I think it’s a choice you make regardless of the company you work for. If you don’t get anything satisfactory about your job of the company you work for; just make a choice and change things in your life.
